How To Plumb: The Backflush

The history of water supply and sanitation has been a logistical challenge answered by plumbers since the dawn of civilization. Throughout human history if water resources, infrastructure or sanitation systems were insufficient, diseases spread and people fell sick or died prematurely. Archeologists have discovered evidence of clay sewer pipes in Mesopotamian sites dating back to around 4000 BCE (Before Common Era, about 6000 years ago). The Indus Valley Civilization in Asia shows evidence of indoor water supply and sewage plumbing dating back to around 2350 BCE. Even if the people installing and maintaining the water systems in these ancient civilizations weren’t called “plumbers,” you can be assured they faced some of the same issues today’s plumbers deal with.

This course provides the foundation for eventual certification as Journeyman plumber as defined by the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) International, ASSE 13000 Certification (service plumber).

Ronald Charest

Ron enlisted in the US Navy right after High School graduation and became an Electronics Technician. He received 20 months of vocational-level electronics training before setting foot on his first submarine, and periodic vocational-level training throughout his 22-year career. During his career, Ron gained working knowledge of a number of other specialized trades including welding and foundry work. Ron is also an avid "Do-It-Yourselfer," and to date has completely renovated three homes working together with his wife Weifang. He has a background in carpentry, furniture making, plumbing, and electrical work, as well as electronics.
